Area of Specialization/ Highlighted Achievements and Results: 

Project Management: Managed multiple, simultaneous, complex projects from end-to-end throughout the full SDLC. Balanced project deliverables while honouring quality and time measures. Analyzed product defects that had escaped to the field and recommended improvements to internal processes where systemic problems were indicated while at Motorola. This resulted in the successful deployment of several improvements to internal processes.

Business Development and Client Relationship Management: Established and maintained valuable client relationships with Fortune 500 companies like FedEx and Cisco. Was instrumental in repairing relationship with one client (Nintendo) while at Blast Radius; end results were finalizing customer acceptance of original project deliverables and a signed contract for $80,000 USD for additional services work.

Leadership and Communication: Facilitated meetings with various teams (local and international), functional groups and customers. Communicated project status to senior management, clients, and team members. Led R&D teams ranging from 4-12 members. 

Business Process Improvement: Process owner and contributor to process improvement activities. Gathered requirements for process flow procedures, analyzed and made recommendations to procedures, and implemented changes to keep processes up-to-date. Extensive experience working with Six Sigma methodology at Motorola. While at Blast Radius, established defect tracking process for one product that contributed to efficiently clearing out the defect backlog by 90%.

Training Development and Delivery: Prepared training collateral and delivered training for internal processes and tools. Training sessions were in a classroom setting and delivered regularly to Motorola Richmond and international Motorola sites. Audience size ranged from one-on-one to 30 members.

Metrics Development: Created and prepared metrics for regular senior management review to monitor organization effectiveness.  These metrics proved critical during audits and in Motorola Richmond’s TL9000 and ISO-9001 certifications and achievement of SEI SW-CMM Level 5.

Release Management: Managed the release of software builds while at Motorola. Moderated release meetings, liaised with internal departments and other Motorola sites regarding project status, audited release content and successfully transferred completed product to the commercial distribution center.
 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Project Manager
JustSystems, Vancouver, BC, Canada
03/2006 - Present
(Worldwide leader in XML solutions and largest independent software vendor in Japan)

 Extensive experience as Project Manager for multiple, complex software development projects throughout the full SDLC using Agile Methodologies. Deliverables are mainly desktop application products. R&D teams range from 6-12 members, and work with a variety of programming languages and frameworks e.g. C/C++/C#, Java, .NET.

  •   Develop and maintain project management collateral (e.g. schedules, estimations, project plans).

  •   Perform resource management, risk-analysis, risk-mitigation and scope/change management to ensure project deadlines are met.

  •   Work hands-on with R&D teams to track project progress. Provide status reporting to senior management and other stakeholders/functional areas.

  •   Liaise with various functional groups (Sales, Finance, Product Management, Marketing, IT) to ensure software products successfully go to market (e.g. ensure timely and accurate Website updates, create email templates for sales transactions, etc).

  •   Participate in cross-functional strategic roadmap planning and requirements gathering sessions.

  •   Process owner and contributor to process change/improvement activities.

  •   Manage internal IT projects e.g. implemented new time-tracking system for the Vancouver office. Analyzed then implemented requirements, created training materials, then organized and presented roll-out sessions to various departments (including senior management). Resulted in a 70% increase in time entry compliance.

  •     Acted as Quality Assurance Manager for 4 months, and on an as-needed basis.

 

Project Manager
Blast Radius (Products Division), Vancouver, BC, Canada — 10/2003 – 02/2006(Successful Vancouver-based online marketing firm well-known for creating award-winning web sites. The Products Division created cutting-edge technologies to solve content authoring and collaboration challenges)

 Project Manager for client-delivered technical solutions as well as pilot programs. Deliverables were typically software customization implementations and teams ranged from 3-4 members. Budgets ranged from $50,000-150,000 USD.

  •    Developed and maintained successful business relationships with clients such as Cisco, FedEx, and Nintendo.

  •   Created project collateral (e.g. project plans, budgets, statements of work, requirements docs).

  •   Managed and communicated project expectations to all stakeholders.

  •   Acted as first line of support for field-reported issues and customer inquiries, and ensured follow-up actions were taken.

  •   Ensured that lessons learned were extracted and documented for future reference. End results were reported positive customer experiences, repeat business engagements with satisfied customers, and valuable feedback.

  •   Process owner and contributor to process change/improvement activities. Created templates for project collateral documents.

  •   Managed government-sponsored SRED programs. Worked closely with Deloitte & Touche to audit experimental development work in order to get federal and provincial tax credits. End result was getting Blast Radius $50,000-75,000 back each year for 2003-2005 inclusive.

Analyst Team Lead
Motorola Canada Ltd, Richmond, BC, Canada — 01/2002 – 06/2003
(The Motorola Richmond office was involved with wireless technology and was the development center for the GPRS Support Node. Launched the first commercial GPRS network worldwide). 

Led a team of 7 members from various functional groups with a mandate to perform analyses of product problems that had escaped to the field.

  •   Chaired weekly team meeting, prepared agendas, and delegated work assignments.

  •   Analyzed product problems that had escaped to the field, then recommended improvements to internal processes where systemic problems were indicated.

  •   Prepared metrics for regular senior management review to monitor organization effectiveness.


Software CM Administrator
Motorola Canada Ltd, Richmond, BC, Canada — 08/1998 – 06/2003
Managed software releases, made significant contributions to process improvements, and provided site training.
